Chapter and Meet-Up Policies
Guidelines to help members and organizers succeed on Books, Brunches & Booze® Platforms and within their chapters
At Books, Brunches & Booze®, we believe that real-life community is really, really important. When people come together, they create new possibilities for each other. Ideas spread, networks form, movements start. At its simplest, life is just better when you have people to enjoy it with.
Books, Brunches & Booze® exists to help bring people together. Books, Brunches & Booze® is a community that builds friendships and provides opportunities that will help them thrive.
To make this possible, Books, Brunches & Booze® requires chapters to meet some basic requirements.
✔ Growth opportunities
Books, Brunches & Booze® Meet-Ups/events should offer opportunities for members to better themselves in some way. This could mean:
Meeting new people
Building community
Volunteering for a cause
Supporting each other
Encouraging a passion
Exploring new places
✔ Host events that create real human connections
Books, Brunches & Booze® is a community that helps people make real-life connections—it is not a community or platform for only advertising sales or special promotions. Meet-Ups/events must focus on creating an experience that adds value for attendees. This can mean learning something, playing a game together, making new friends, or enjoying each other’s company. People should leave Books, Brunches & Booze® Meet-Ups/events feeling inspired or more connected to their community in some way.
Here are a few examples of what’s acceptable to post as a Books, Brunches & Booze® event:
Discussions that offer new perspectives
Adventures that get people out of their comfort zones
Meet-Ups that allow people to get to know each other
Tours that help people discover new places and ideas
Workshops that help people sharpen their skills
Group speakers that spread new ideas
Games that connect people through fun, shared experiences
✔ Meet in real life
Connecting online is just not the same as connecting in real life. Books, Brunches & Booze® chapters need to meet locally and in-person so that real-life communities can grow. Books, Brunches & Booze® should not be used only for hosting online meetings, conference calls, or webinars.
✔ Be honest and transparent about your chapter’s intentions
Books, Brunches & Booze® hosts must always be honest and transparent with their members so that everyone knows what to expect at the chapter’s events. Chapter and Meet-Up/event names and descriptions must accurately convey sufficient information that allows members to make informed decisions about their participation. This includes, at a minimum, being clear about:
The nature of the chapter’s activities, interests, and intentions
The chapter’s membership requirements
Fees if necessary for specific event/activities
If Books, Brunches & Booze® receives reports that a chapter is not accurately disclosing any of this information, we may remove the chapter at our sole discretion.
