Two writers compete for the chance to tell the larger-than-life story of a woman with more than a couple of plot twists up her sleeve in this dazzling and sweeping new novel from Emily Henry.
Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud. And they’re both on balmy Little Crescent Island for the same reason: To write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years--or at least to meet with the octogenarian who claims to be the Margaret Ives. Tragic heiress, former tabloid princess, and daughter of one of the most storied (and scandalous) families of the 20th Century.
When Margaret invites them both for a one-month trial period, after which she’ll choose the person who’ll tell her story, there are three things keeping Alice’s head in the game.
One: Alice genuinely likes people, which means people usually like Alice—and she has a whole month to win the legendary woman over.
Two: She’s ready for this job and the chance to impress her perennially unimpressed family with a Serious Publication
Three: Hayden Anderson, who should have no reason to be concerned about losing this book, is glowering at her in a shaken-to-the core way that suggests he sees her as competition.
But the problem is, Margaret is only giving each of them pieces of her story. Pieces they can’t swap to put together because of an ironclad NDA and an inconvenient yearning pulsing between them every time they’re in the same room.
And it’s becoming abundantly clear that their story—just like the tale Margaret’s spinning—could be a mystery, tragedy, or love ballad…depending on who’s telling it.

There might be no such a thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrously close. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediately yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong…
. . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake. But after one incredible and seemingly endless date—possibly the best in living history—Samantha is forced to admit the truth, that her family is in crisis and any kind of relationship would be impossible. Samantha begs Xavier to forget her. To remember their night together as a perfect moment, as crushing as that may be.
Only no amount of distance or time is nearly enough to forget that something between them. And the only thing better than one single perfect memory is to make a life—and even a love—worth remembering.

MEET MARKIE
Markie is an astrologer, yoga instructor, retreat leader and host of Led by the Cosmos podcast. She is passionate about helping others find compassion for themselves and their life experiences through learning about their birth charts, intentional conversations with their communities, and mindfulness practices.
She is a proud Sun Devil alumna and has a background working for multiple e-commerce start-ups in NYC. Although her childhood had constant divine influence, it wasn't until she graduated college that she came back to her connection to spirituality through a series of serendipitous events.
What started as frequent angel number sightings and practicing yoga in her windowless 90 sq. ft. room in NYC, turned into a path of healing, growth, freedom, grief, and love.
Outside of her work, you can catch her reading a new book, finding the best mint chocolate chip ice cream around town, or planning her next trip abroad.

TESTIMONIALS
What Our Members Are Saying
“I love that this book club brings so many bibliophiles together. People who are from different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and occupations all have a common denominator with one book each month.”
— Sarah | Columbia, SC
“I love the atmosphere of BB&B—laid back and fun! There are no strict guidelines for members to follow—some months, I am able to read the book of the month, some months I’m too busy to find the time. All of the BB&B book picks that I’ve read, I’ve loved—from the historical fiction tear jerkers to the nail-biting psycho-thrillers. When I am able to make the social meet-ups, I always enjoy meeting new members and everyone has the same M.O.—we just want to have fun!”
— Kellie | Philadelphia, PA
“It is hard to make friends as an adult. BB&B has been a great way to meet more girls who have shared interests in books, who I may not have crossed paths with otherwise. I have met so many new friends and can’t wait to keep building those friendships and making more!”
— Reaganne | Alexandria, VA
